golfball-sized hail fell at our house today!

“Don’t like the weather?  Wait five minutes.”

I’ve heard that quote in a variety of places, both from relatives in England and friends here in Colorado.  It’s true!

We were out running errands today, and there were some overcast clouds, but nothing too severe looking.  But on our drive home we started to get some sleet, and just after we parked in the garage, the skies opened up with full on hail!  The ice chunk you see at left is representative of most of the stones coming down, and I’m sure I saw larger ones landing in the garden.  These were spun off of a tornado that was reported in town today.  We heard the tornado sirens from nearby schools, but never saw the funnel.  And, after about 10-15 minutes, like Kaiser Soze, poof! it was gone!  The clouds opened up and we’ve got sunny skies right now.  Amazing weather in Colorado this time of year…
