Strobist Cookie
By Tom on Jul 4, 2009 in Lighting
Jenn made this yummy cookie for the neighborhood 4th of July parade/party today. As it happened, Strobist is running his summer Boot Camp at the moment and the second assignment was on food, so this was a happy convergence of lighting practice and sweets!
And, since the winner actually gets some nice stuff I figured it wouldn’t hurt to appeal to Mr. Hobby’s sweet tooth…
More on how this was shot, after the jump.
THE LIGHTING
Lighting on this was very simple – just a single flash on a stand behind and slightly to the right side of the cookie, which was still in it’s tray and placed on a stool in the middle of our makeshift basement studio. The flash had a snoot on it to control the spill of the light, and was set at 1/16th power.
The setup shot below shows the stool and flash, but by this time the cookie had sadly been removed for cutting up and packaging for transport to the neighborhood party in an hour or so…
THE RECIPE
For those wondering, Jenn gives the recipe as follows:
“It’s EASY! Just make your own sugar cookie mix for the base (you can buy pre-made sugar cookie mix, but I prefer to make my own) and bake it until crisp. Pull it and let it cool. When it’s cooled down, spread your favorite jelly all over the top – here, I’ve used apricot. Once that’s down, add your favorite chopped nuts (walnut in this case) and finish it off by drizzling chocolate all over the top. Using both white and mile chocolate gives a nice color contrast, and you can also get nice colors by using a red jelly, such as strawberry.”
Yum!
Final Note: I really do think she’s trying to fatten me up – there’s an awesome looking cheesecake coming up next for a party at our friends’ house tonight! MUST. USE. WILLPOWER!
