BoomBox Testing
By Tom on Jan 18, 2010 in Family, Lighting, Portraits
I mentioned the “BoomBox” yesterday – our softbox on an extendable painter’s pole. I also mentioned how we weren’t really able to test it yesterday due to the conditions in the field. So, after feeding and a change of diaper, Katherine agreed to model for us while we tested it out. Click thru for a couple more pics…
This was a very simple test. We put K on a papasan chair, and Jenn held the BoomBox over her while I sat on the floor with the camera and 50mm lens. The 580EXII in the BoomBox was set at 1/16th power, and the box was roughly 4 feet above Katherine for this pics.
I love the nice square highlight in the eyes, and the soft, even quality of light. Brody (the dog) wandered by in the middle of the shoot and distracted the model (as shown above), but she promised to work on her professionalism and rededicate herself to the modeling craft.
This was probably sarcastic though, since the very next frame was this one:
Love that heart-shaped tongue!

Thank goodness you finally put a new picture up! We thought you’d sold her!!
Lovely pics. Thanks! Mum
