A few quick portraits

K and I were goofing around today and I realized I hadn’t taken any nice portraits of her recently. So I grabbed a flash and the homemade beauty dish and set out to see if she would sit still for me… She wasn’t very keen on it, but there were a couple times I did get her to stand or sit still just long enough to get a decent frame.

As usual, click on any of these to see a larger image.

The ‘big girl’ bed

So last weekend we took the front panel off of K’s crib to convert it into a ‘big girl’ bed.  She had more and more often been getting her leg stuck between the bars of the front panel in her efforts to climb out, so we figured it was time…  The first night we just pulled the mattress out of the crib and put it on the floor for her.  She was very concerned that we had ‘broken’ her crib and after an hour and a half of her screaming about it we gave up and put it back in.  The next night we took the front off, and she’s had no problems sleeping in it since.

Including tonight:

Too funny!  Love that kid.

WEDDING: Jessica & Travis

We had a BLAST shooting Jessica and Travis’ wedding in Billings a few weekends ago!  What a fun couple!  They live in Seattle now, but Jessica grew up here in Billings, so the wedding was at St. Bernard’s here in the Heights. Jessica and Travis had a really large group of family and friends who traveled from Washington, North Dakota, Minnesota (and probably some from further than that!) to be with them on their special day.

We were joined on this shoot by our good friend Dave from SKI U L8R Photography, who was kind enough to come up from Denver to help us.  Thanks, Dave…we really couldn’t have done it without you!

Hope you enjoy the video below.

Father’s Day Road Trip

The weather has been hit-or-miss so far this spring (we’re only a few days from the official start of summer and there’s still a bunch of snow on the Beartooth Mountains!  Friends who grew up here in Billings say they’ve never seen this much snow up there this late in the year.) and the weather geeks are calling for more rain tomorrow, so we decided to get out of town today, and headed to Red Lodge.  Our first stop was the Beartooth Nature Center, to show K the animals.  She had a good time walking around and enjoyed looking at the different creatures.  Photographically, though, that was a dud since the cage bars are much too close together and the pens really aren’t big enough to allow good angles.  So I just tried to get some good pics of Katherine.  Click through below for a few more.

Summer Storm Cell

Lightning Strike 6-6-2011

Lightning striking north of Billings Heights on June 6th, 2011.

Mother Nature gave us a show tonight…a strong storm system started up here in Montana late this afternoon, with several tornado funnel clouds spotted all around.  This storm just skirted by our area of town, and once I was sure that it was safely past us, I grabbed the camera and tried some long exposures.  This one was 15s @ f/8, ISO 100.  I was still a little leery of the cell so I just sat by the side of the road and a couple people drove through the shot, but I kind of liked the effect their lights made.
